Relevant cds postmark as Sir Christopher Cockerell, who invented the hovercraft (1/3d stamp), tested his prototypes on the River just west of Somerleyton near Lowestoft during the first half of the 1950s. In June 2010 a Hovercraft Memorial, was unveiled at Somerleyton, Lowestoft, by Lady Somerleyton, to commemorate the local invention of the Hovercraft by Sir Christopher Cockerell on the 100th anniversary of his birth.
